Cart abandonment

Cart abandonment is a shopper adding items to a basket and leaving without completing the purchase, and cart recovery is the follow-up that tries to bring them back.

Recovery works better on messaging than on email because it is read sooner, and it goes wrong faster for the same reason. It requires an opt-in and a sensible delay, and it should stop the moment the customer buys or replies. Chasing a customer who already completed the order is the most common and most annoying mistake.

Worth knowing alongside it.
