Broadcast

A broadcast is a single message sent to many contacts at once, delivered as an individual conversation to each recipient rather than as a group chat.

Also calledbulk messagecampaign sendblast

On WhatsApp, a broadcast outside the conversation window must use an approved template and reaches only contacts with a recorded opt-in. Recipients can reply, and those replies arrive as ordinary conversations, so a broadcast with nowhere to put the answers usually fails. Pacing matters too: sending everything at once produces a spike your team cannot answer.

Worth knowing alongside it.

Message template
A message template is a message format submitted to Meta for review in advance, which a business may then send to a customer outside the conversation window with variables filled in.
Opt-in
An opt-in is a recorded agreement from a customer to receive messages from a business on a specific channel for a specific purpose.
Segment
A segment is a defined group of contacts described by rules over their attributes and behaviour, rather than a fixed list of names.
Suppression list
A suppression list is the set of contacts a business must not message, built from opt-outs, bounces, complaints, and manual exclusions.
